Why candy at Halloween?
Halloween is originally an American holiday. In America, children go door-to-door on October 31st, dressing up in costume. When they open the door, they shout "Trick-or-treat!", which means something like "trick or treat." But why candy? In the past (from the Middle Ages onward), food or harvest items were given at the door during the precursors to Halloween. Due in part to commercial opportunities, this eventually changed to candy. Children are supposed to choose a candy themselves when they arrive at the door. These days, Halloween is also celebrated more and more often in the Netherlands, including with parties. Halloween candy is a must!
