Candies with a scary theme. The best part, of course, are the candies that have to do with the Halloween theme. Why candy at Halloween?

Halloween is originally an American holiday. In America, children walk door to door on October 31st and dress up. When opening the door they then shout: “trick-or-treat!”, which means something like “your candy or your life”. But why candy? In the past (since the Middle Ages), food or harvest was given at the door during the precursors of Halloween. Partly due to the commercial possibilities, this was eventually changed to candy. The idea is that children can choose their own candy when they come to the door. Nowadays we celebrate Halloween more and more often in the Netherlands, including with parties. Halloween candy cannot be missed!
