On Saturday, May 25, 2025, the first official edition of the NK Trekdrop Ttrekken place at the Zuidplein Shopping Center in Rotterdam. A tribute to an iconic candy that has captured hearts (and hands) for generations.

In 2020, the beloved licorice candy disappeared from the shelves, but now it's getting a unique second life. According to organizer and chairman Olaf Ouwerkerk (and candy director of Candy Festival), this is the perfect time to honor this quintessential Dutch classic:
"Everyone knows that magical moment when you stretch a licorice candy to its limit. It requires technique, precision, and strategy. That deserves a national championship!"

🏆 How does it work?

The NK Trekdrop Trekking is deadly serious and has strict rules:

✔️ The longest stretch wins – Without breaking, of course.
✔️ No melted licorice – Heating or kneading is prohibited.
✔️ Official judges – A team of licorice experts decides who is the true stretch king.
