On Saturday, May 25, 2025, the first official edition of the Dutch National Trekdrop Pulling Championship place at Zuidplein Shopping Centre in Rotterdam. An ode to an iconic candy that has captured hearts (and hands) for generations.

In 2020, the beloved licorice stick disappeared from the shelves, but now it is getting a one-off second life. According to organizer and chairman Olaf Ouwerkerk (and candy boss of Candyfestival), this is the perfect moment to honor this quintessential Dutch classic:
“Everyone knows that magical moment when you stretch a licorice stick to its absolute limit. It requires technique, precision, and strategy. That deserves a national championship!”

🏆 How does it work?

The NK Trekdrop Trekking is deadly serious and has strict rules:

✔️ The longest stretch wins – Without breaking, of course.
✔️ No melted licorice – Heating or kneading is prohibited.
✔️ Official judges – A team of licorice experts judges who is truly the stretch king.
